The following will be taught in the non competitive program
Safety
- Knows traffic pattern
- Wears appropriate clothing
- Knows what conditions are safe to row in
- Knows safety procedures for taking out a boat without a coach
Equipment
- Understands basic rigging, including: spread, oar lock height, where the foot stretchers should be placed etc…
- Demonstrates confident and proper boat and oar handling
- Knows how to put a rigger on and take it off
Technique
The focus of the advanced class will be on improving technique and fitness in varying lineups. The following is an idea of what the focus will be in:
- Racing starts and basic race strategy
- Focus on the flow of the boat and moving together
- More focus on technique then high intensity workouts
Drills
- Eyes closed
- Inside Arm
- Acceleration/Deceleration Drill
- Add In By Pairs
- Pause Drill Anywhere
- Feet Out Drill
- Other drills will be utilized to help rowers stroke
Fitness
- Understands the importance of warming up and cooling down
- Knows some good stretches for rowers
- Able to complete a steady state workout for 20 min at a aerobic level
- Able to complete a higher intensity workout for 3 x 5-10 min
- May do at home work to get stronger
- Can complete erg workout
The Advanced and Comp/Adv 2 may be taught by the same coach if enrollment is not sufficient to run either one separately.
