Upon completion of Learn-to-Row, a rower will have the following knowledge and skills:
Safety
- Knows traffic pattern
- Wears appropriate clothing
- Has viewed the USRowing safety video
- Knows how to stop the boat
Equipment
- Knows how to carry the oars and boat
- Knows how to move the footstretchers
- Knows parts of the boat and oar (slides, seats, rigger, blade, oarlock, etc…)
Technique
- Has proper grip
- Knows the positions of the stroke:
- Finish
- Drive
- Recovery
- Catch
- Knows sequencing on drive & recovery
- Understands Ratio 1:2, Slow recovery
- Knows how to set the boat while not rowing
- Knows how to feather
- Knows the arc of the oar
- Knows how to back
- Knows how to turn the boat around
- Is able to add in and drop out
