Competitive

The following will be the focus in the Competitive Group

The Competitive Class is a group of rowers who want to train at a high level in somewhat set lineups. The focus will be on races and training for them. It is expected that any rower in the competitive group will attend at least one regatta in the summer and two in the fall

Safety

  1. Knows traffic pattern
  2. Wears appropriate clothing
  3. Know what conditions are safe to row in
  4. Knows safety procedures for taking out a boat without a coach

Equipment

  1. Understands pitch of the oar and how to change it
  2. Understands basic rigging, including: spread, oar lock height, where the foot stretchers should be placed etc…
  3. Demonstrates confident and proper boat and oar handling
  4. Knows how to put a rigger on and take it off

Technique

  1. Racing starts and race strategy
  2. Solidifying the boat as a unit
  3. Focus on technique to move the boat faster
  4. Understands application of power and its effect on the boat

Fitness

  1. Understands the importance of warming up and cooling down
  2. Knows stretches for rowers
  3. Does work at home to build strength
  4. Able to complete a high intensity steady state workout up to 45 min
  5. Able to focus on improving erg workouts (enjoyment of the erg is optional)

The Advanced and Comp/Adv 2 may be taught by the same coach if enrollment is not sufficient to run either one separately.
